JewishMingle.com – An Online Matchmaking Service for Jewish Singles

JewishMingle.com is an online dating service targeted toward the Jewish demographic. When first visiting the site, you will see a man and woman smiling, success stories, and an online sign in. After deciding to sign up, it will ask you if you are a man seeking a woman, or woman seeking a man, these are the only options to choose from. Being straight is not an option for this online dating service.

Next JewishMingle.com wants to know your height, body type, eye and hair color, religion which is basically just the type of Jewish faith you practice such as orthodox, conservadox, reform, secular, traditional, etc. It then asks your education and occupation. When you choose your username and password, your password is not hidden, so be sure that no one is around that you don’t want in your account when signing up. The advantage to this however, is that you don’t need to confirm your password.

When you sign in for the first time on JewishMingle.com, you will find that they leave you a to do list of items, browsing, or you can choose to go to your home page. I chose the homepage, as I am only reviewing the site, but there were several interesting options to choose from. On your homepage, you will find your profile activity on the left side of the screen. Here you can view who has emailed or smiled at you, sent you a card or spark, instant messaged, viewed, or added you to their favorites. Under this is your sent emails, smiles, cards, sparks, instant messages, profiles viewed, and favorites of your own.

If you want to update your profile, you can do so just underneath this, under the section appropriately named update profile. Here you can add photos of yourself, finish your profile with details, write essays, match preferences with others, and color code your profile. If you have friends, they are listed just below this, with a button for adding and removing them as you see fit.

If you click on match preferences, located in the middle of your homepage, you will be directed to a page on the dating service where you can choose the body type, education, relationship, status, religion, religious activity, kosher, smoker, or drinker options so you can find appropriate matches that will work well for you and your lifestyle. You can even choose the age range you would like to date, the location or how far they can live from where you are, and there heights. You can also choose to have emails sent to you when new matches are found and show the preferences on your profile for when others view it.

On the top of your home page, there are tabs for Home, Connect, Search, and My Profile, each takes you someplace new. Above this is a place that welcomes you with your name, upgrades your account, shows the details of your account, can help with questions, or you can log out when you are finished. This is located in the top right of www.JewishMingle.com’s page.

Of course clicking the home page won’t do anything else while you are on it, so clicking to my right, on connect, I found that there is a place for my inbox, chat, instant messenger, and message boards. New to the site, you will find no new messages, not even a welcome message accustomed by many other dating service sites. The chat that is located just below this encourages you to enter the chat room, and lets you know how many people are online. Of course, when you click this, it will take you to a screen where you can upgrade your standard membership for a monthly fee, the lowest fee per month for the most months, of course.

The instant messenger is located just below this, however; just like the chat, you have to buy a membership upgrade in order to use it. You can view your history. This differs from chat as within a chat room, you have a public conversation, where the IM is one on one. You can set your settings once you upgrade however, which allows you to choose some different items for your instant messenger.

If you decide that you are feeling a little curious, you can use the search button to do a search on the dating service. Some options include a quick or advanced search, who’s online, recent matches, photo gallery, photo shuffle, stand out profiles, and a username search. There are also a couple unique ones that I have not found elsewhere, the Think You’d Click search and the Question of the Week search. The Think You’d Click option allows you to vote for users with photos. You can choose yes maybe or no for their pictures. The Question of the Week for this week is: What world event in your lifetime do you feel has had the most impact on you? Here, you can comment on the question, and have a discussion with other members. This is a unique feature to JewishMingle.com that I have not found on every dating site.

The last tab is the my profile tab, here you can see an overview of your profile. You can also put in more basic information, fill in the about me section, add fun facts, match preferences, essays, color codes, photos, and comment on the question of the week. The color codes was something that wasn’t clear, so I clicked on it. There are different colors for different personality types and here you can take the profile  questionnaire. For each question there are six groups of answers, they call them questions one through six, but really you choose one word to describe yourself from each, and then move on to the next section. This test takes approximately 15 minutes and deals mainly with you as a youth, yet it is a very unique test not found on many other dating services. www.JewishMingle.com is for those of Jewish decent and faith and is a place to meet singles looking for a date.
